A Dodge P2B–GT–07 mounted ball bearing unit: a two–bolt cast iron pillow block carrying a self–aligning ball bearing insert with Grip Tight adapter mounting, for a 1–1/4 in shaft. The block bolts down onto a flat surface through two holes in its base, and the insert’s spherical outer ring seats in the housing so the bearing self–aligns to the shaft as the machine settles. Sold as 1 Pc.
Earlier copy on this listing described this as a flange mount bearing. It is not — Dodge P2B is a two–bolt pillow block. That distinction decides whether the part will physically mount: a pillow block bolts down through its base with the shaft running parallel to the mounting surface, while a flange unit bolts to a vertical face with the shaft passing through it. Dodge’s flange units carry F2B, F4B and similar prefixes. If you need a flange, this is the wrong part; if you need a base–mounted block, it is right.
P2B — two–bolt pillow block, cast iron housing.
GT — Grip Tight: Dodge’s adapter–mount ball bearing insert. A tapered adapter sleeve and locking collar draw the insert’s tapered inner ring down onto the shaft.
07 — the Dodge size code for this Grip Tight series, corresponding to a 1–1/4 in shaft.
129494 is the Dodge part number marked on this stock. Catalogue listings for the P2B–GT–07 also show 129424, so both numbers are carried here for search.
Grip Tight is the reason to choose this block over a setscrew unit. A setscrew insert grips at two points, marks the shaft, and lets go under reversing load or heavy vibration — which is how conveyor pulleys end up with a spun inner ring and a chewed shaft. The Grip Tight adapter clamps the full 360° of the shaft instead, so holding power is far higher, the insert runs concentric rather than cocked to one side, and the shaft comes out unmarked when you strip it down. That matters most on plain commercial shafting where there is no machined seat or keyway to locate against, which is exactly where these blocks live: grain elevators, aggregate and bulk material conveyors, screw conveyors, fans, agricultural drives.
The self–aligning insert is the second half of the story. Its outer ring is spherical and sits in a matching seat in the housing, so the bearing can pivot to follow a shaft that is not perfectly perpendicular to the mounting face. Bolt two of these to a conveyor frame that is out of line and they simply accommodate it, without the edge–loading that would kill a rigidly mounted bearing.
One consequence to plan for: a self–aligning insert accommodates static and slow misalignment, not continuous angular motion. It is not a substitute for a coupling, and it will not tolerate a shaft that is bent and running out under rotation.
Shaft size 1–1/4 in.
Housing: two–bolt pillow block, cast iron.
Insert: single–row ball bearing, spherical outer ring, self–aligning.
Locking method: Grip Tight tapered adapter with locking collar — full–circumference clamp, no setscrews.
Mounting: base–mounted through two bolt holes, shaft parallel to the mounting surface.
Relubricatable through the housing.
One unit per order — 1 Pc. What ships is the complete pillow block: cast iron housing plus the Grip Tight ball bearing insert with its adapter and locking hardware. This is not a housing–only or an insert–only listing. Mounting bolts for fixing the block to your frame are not included, as they are always sized to the installation.
Slide the block onto the shaft before you tighten anything, and position it while the adapter is still loose. Then draw the locking collar up to the specified torque — that is what expands the adapter and grips the shaft, and an under–torqued Grip Tight collar will creep exactly like a loose setscrew. Do not use the locking collar to pull the block along the shaft.
Let the insert find its own alignment before you finally torque the base bolts: run the shaft briefly, or rock the housing, so the spherical outer ring settles in its seat. Bolting the block down hard first and then forcing the shaft through fights the self–aligning feature instead of using it. Grease through the housing fitting on the maintenance interval for the duty — dusty bulk–handling positions want relubrication far more often than a clean indoor drive.
Match three things on any substitute: shaft size (1–1/4 in), housing style, and locking method. Dodge’s own alternatives on the same shaft size include the P2B–SC and P2B–SCM setscrew blocks and the P2B–GTAH and P2B–GTH variants within the Grip Tight family — all pillow blocks, but different locking or housing details, so they are related builds rather than exact equivalents. SealMaster MP and NP, Link–Belt P3U and Cooper BCP are the equivalent pillow–block families from other makers; Dodge F2B and F4B, Cooper BCF and NTN UCFU are flange units and are not interchangeable with this block. Bolt centres and base–to–centre height vary between makers even at the same shaft size, so check the footprint against your existing holes before ordering across brands. Dodge is now Dodge Industrial, part of RBC Bearings, which is the route to current supply.
