This is a double row, full complement cylindrical roller bearing in the 140 mm bore size, measuring 140 mm bore by 190 mm outside diameter by 50 mm wide. It belongs to Schaeffler’s SL01 family, which is the full complement, locating design derived from the DIN 5412 NNC series. Two rows of cylindrical rollers run directly between the inner and outer raceways with no cage separating them, and ribs on both rings on both sides guide the roller set axially in both directions. The bearing is supplied open, with no seals or shields, and it has a lubrication hole through the outer ring for grease or oil supply through the housing.
SL014928-A breaks down predictably once you know the pattern. SL01 identifies a double row, full complement cylindrical roller bearing of the locating type, with both rings ribbed on both sides — the DIN NNC and NNCF family. The fourth and fifth digits give the ISO dimension series: SL014928 is dimension series 49. The last two digits are the bore code, 28, which corresponds to a 140 mm bore. The trailing -A denotes an internal design variant. Two other suffixes you will meet on the same envelope are -XL, which marks the optimised current generation of the design, and -C3, which specifies increased radial internal clearance instead of the standard CN group. The DIN 5412 equivalent designation for this bearing is NNC4928V, and that is the number to search if you are working from an older German drawing or parts list.
Why full complement matters, and what it costs you:
Removing the cage is not a cost saving, it is an engineering trade. With no cage occupying circumferential space, the bearing holds the maximum possible number of rollers for its envelope. More rollers means more load-carrying contacts, so radial capacity and radial rigidity are both far higher than a caged bearing of the same outside dimensions could achieve. That is exactly why designers reach for SL01 when a gearbox or roll neck has a fixed shaft and housing bore and simply needs more capacity out of the same space.
The cost is speed. Adjacent rollers touch and rub against each other rather than being held apart by a cage, which raises friction and generates more heat, so the permissible speed is meaningfully lower than a caged equivalent. Published limiting speed for this bearing is 1,950 rpm, with a thermal reference speed of 1,370 rpm. The other consequence is that a full complement bearing must not be run at speed under light load. Without sufficient radial load to keep the rollers loaded and rolling, they skid rather than roll, which smears the lubricant film and scuffs the raceway. If your duty cycle includes long light-load, high-speed periods, a caged NN or NNU design is the safer choice.
Ribs on both rings on both sides mean the roller set is axially trapped, so this bearing takes axial load in both directions and fixes the axial position of the shaft. That is useful — it saves you a separate thrust element — but it imposes a design rule. A shaft may only have one locating bearing. If you fit two locating bearings on the same shaft with no axial freedom between them, thermal growth of the shaft on warm-up will drive the two bearings apart and preload the set axially with forces the rollers were never rated for. The result is rapid heat build-up and failure. Pair this bearing with a genuinely free bearing at the other end — an NU or NJ cylindrical roller design, or a bearing free to slide in its housing bore.

The static rating of 550 kN is more than double the dynamic rating of 270 kN, which is the signature of a full complement design and tells you this bearing tolerates shock and standing load extremely well. Static capacity governs whether a brief overload permanently dents the raceways; dynamic capacity governs fatigue life under rotation. A machine that sits loaded, jams, or takes impact benefits from that high C0r. The fatigue limit load Cur of 67 kN is the more useful modern figure for long-life calculations: keep the equivalent dynamic load below Cur with clean, adequate lubrication and the bearing is theoretically running below its fatigue threshold. Internal clearance CN assumes a normal interference fit on the shaft and a normal operating temperature difference between rings. Heavier press fits or a hot inner ring eat into running clearance, and that is precisely when you would specify the -C3 variant instead.
SL014928-A is not interchangeable with SL182928, and the two are easy to confuse because they share the same 140 mm bore and 190 mm outside diameter. SL182928 is 140 x 190 x 30 mm, a narrower bearing, and it is a semi-locating design that permits limited axial displacement rather than fixing the shaft. Different width, different housing shoulder, different function. Confirm the width and the function before ordering. Likewise, SL04 series bearings of similar size use a two-part inner ring with snap rings and offer higher axial capacity, and they are not a drop-in for SL01.
INA is a Schaeffler Group brand, alongside FAG, so current catalogue and technical data appear under Schaeffler. Search forms that reach the same part include SL014928-A, SL014928A, SL01 4928 A, SL01-4928-A and the DIN designation NNC4928V. The -XL variant of the same size is the current optimised generation. Always verify the width dimension and the locating function against your application rather than matching on bore and outside diameter alone.
