ABEC 9 sets radial and axial runout, bore and outside-diameter tolerance and width variation an order tighter than the ABEC 7 of a P4 bearing. The T phenolic cage is machined from cotton-reinforced phenolic resin and rides light. It carries lubricant in its own porosity, generates little heat at high speed, and is standard on super-precision spindle bearings for that reason. Fitting notes

Super-precision spindle bearings are handled with the faces protected and mounted with force applied only to the ring being fitted. An angular contact bearing takes thrust in one direction, so the wide outer-ring face is the thrust-taking face and its orientation fixes the direction of axial support. In a paired mounting the ground faces butt without shims, and the arrangement chosen — back to back for rigidity, face to face for misalignment tolerance, tandem for doubled one-way thrust — sets the preload developed.
