A double cup carries two raceways in one outer ring, so a single pressed-in cup serves both rows. The two cones face opposite directions, which lets the assembly take thrust in both directions and carry a moment load, and the TDO arrangement is the usual choice where a wide effective bearing spread is wanted inside one housing bore. Being a factory assembly, the setting is established by the supplied component stack rather than adjusted at fitting.
