A super-precision angular contact ball bearing in the 7004 size, supplied as a factory-matched universal pair. Bore 20 mm, outside diameter 42 mm, width 12 mm per bearing.
7004 — ISO angular contact 70-series: 20 mm bore, 42 mm outside diameter, 12 mm width. The 70 series is the light section for this bore.
CD — 15° contact angle in the SKF super-precision scheme. The 25° counterpart carries an A prefix, as ACD.
P4A — SKF super-precision class: ISO class 4 dimensional accuracy with class 2 running accuracy, the grade the trade calls ABEC 7.
DGB — matched set, universally ground, moderate preload. DGA is the light grade and DGC the heavy.
The 15° contact angle and the light 70-series section put this at the high-speed, low-heat end of the range for a 20 mm shaft, with proportionally less thrust capacity than a 25° or heavier-section bearing. Moderate preload raises axial and radial stiffness over the light grade and holds running accuracy better as load varies, at the cost of higher friction and a higher steady-state temperature. On a small-bore bearing like this the preload grade dominates the stiffness of the whole spindle front end.

The preload is ground into the ring faces and is realised only when both inner rings and both outer rings are clamped solidly against their seats. Alignment marks on the outer ring faces set the intended arrangement, and the two bearings stay together as a set.
Same-envelope 7004 bearings in the ACD 25° design, or at the DGA and DGC preload grades, are related sizes rather than interchanges. The generic ISO shorthand for this size and angle is 7004 C. A 7204 is a heavier section on the same 20 mm bore, not a substitute.
