317BDE is written on the carton as 317BDE, 317 B DE and 7317. The DE execution is a universally ground single bearing supplied with controlled face relationship and end play as clamped, so it can be mounted back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem against another bearing from an identically marked carton. BRZ: machined bronze cage. Precision Class: ABEC 3.
A 40° contact angle is the heaviest thrust rating in the angular contact range, carrying high axial load in one direction and taking reversing thrust when mounted against a second bearing. The trade is speed: a 40° bearing runs slower than a 15° or 25° bearing of the same envelope. A machined bronze cage tolerates higher temperature and oil-mist or circulating-oil lubrication better than a pressed steel cage. ABEC 3 gives closer running accuracy and lower vibration than standard tolerance.
One piece. A DE bearing is one half of a duplex pair, ground so that any two bearings from cartons with identical markings match each other. Mountable singly, or stacked in DB, DF or DT relationship as the application requires.
Shaft and housing fits are kept light on a controlled-face bearing, since internal clearance changes the flushness of the ring faces. A DE execution is the correct choice where a heavy press fit, misalignment or high operating temperature is present, because it is ground with end play as clamped. Axial clamping of both inner rings sets the arrangement.
SKF 7317 BE and FAG 7317-B-TVP share the same size and 40° angle, but neither is face-ground for universal mounting, and their cage materials differ. Searchable forms of the designation: 317BDE, 317-B-DE, 317 BDE, 7317 BDE, 317BDE BRZ.
