SKF 6315 Y C172 single-row deep groove ball bearing. Bore 75 mm, outside diameter 160 mm, width 37 mm. Straight bore, open on both faces, one row of balls in a pressed brass window cage, normal CN radial internal clearance.
6315 places the bearing in the 6300 heavy dimension series at a 75 mm bore. Y is SKF’s code for a pressed brass window cage, distinct from the pressed steel cage that a blank or J code carries and from the machined brass cage of an M. C172 is an SKF special-execution suffix, carried here as a carton marking and searchable designation. No clearance suffix appears in the designation, so the bearing is normal CN class.
The 6300 series is the heavy variant at any given bore, so at 75 mm it carries a substantially higher radial load than a 6215 in the same bore. A pressed brass window cage tolerates higher temperature and more aggressive lubricants than a pressed steel cage, and it is non-magnetic. Deep groove geometry takes radial load with moderate thrust in either direction.
One bearing. Open on both faces, no shields, seals or snap ring groove.
Standard practice for this bore is an interference fit on the shaft and a location or light interference fit in the housing, with mounting force applied to the ring being fitted. Open bearings are lubricated by the housing, so grease charge or oil feed is set by the application rather than by the bearing.
The 75 x 160 x 37 mm envelope is shared by every brand’s 6315, so NSK, NTN, FAG, Koyo and Timken 6315 all fit the same seats. Cage material differs between executions and changes the speed and temperature limits, so a plain 6315 with a pressed steel cage is a related size within the same envelope rather than an identical part.
