A Timken 941950 tapered roller bearing cup, also called the race — the outer ring of a very large tapered roller bearing, 19-1/2 in outside diameter and 2-1/8 in wide. The cup is a single hardened and ground steel ring carrying the outer raceway.

A tapered roller bearing is built in two halves that are stocked and replaced separately, because the cup presses into the housing while the cone carries the rollers and goes onto the shaft. The cup holds the outer raceway and nothing else. At 19-1/2 in outside diameter this is the top of the industrial range — excavator and crane slew and travel drives, rolling mill stands, large kiln and mill trunnions, and heavy marine and power generation shafting, where the bearing takes very high radial load with heavy thrust through the raceway angle.
The raceway angle is built into the cup number, and cup and cone are ground as a matched geometric pair. The two halves are ordered against each other by number, and the bearing is set on assembly by adjusting the axial position of one race against the other.
A cup this size goes in with a press or with controlled housing heating rather than by driving, seating fully against its shoulder with force taken on the back face and not the raceway. The housing bore is checked for roundness and for shoulder squareness first, since a large-diameter cup is relatively thin in section and takes up the form of the bore it sits in — an out-of-round bore transfers straight into the raceway and into the load pattern on the rollers.
941950 identifies the outside diameter, the width and the raceway angle together. Because the angle is part of the number, another cup of the same outside diameter and width is a related size rather than a substitution: a cone will not seat correctly against a raceway ground to a different angle.
