An imperial single-row deep groove ball bearing with a 5 in bore, 7 in outside diameter and 1 in width. Open on both faces, with no seal, shield or snap ring.
The XLJ prefix places this in RHP’s imperial journal ball bearing range, dimensioned in inches rather than to an ISO metric series, and the 5 is the bore in inches. This is a radial deep groove bearing rather than an angular contact bearing, so the RHP angle letters used on the metric 7000 series do not apply to it. The carton also carries the numbers 50BIC225 and XLS5, which are alternative designations for the same imperial envelope.
The cross-section is square: subtracting the 5 in bore from the 7 in outside diameter and halving gives 1 in, which equals the width. That proportion is characteristic of the imperial journal series and is a quick way to confirm an envelope from a carton marking alone.
A deep groove ball bearing carries radial load as its primary duty and takes a moderate amount of thrust in either direction, because the balls sit in a deep circumferential groove in both rings rather than on an offset contact line. That makes it the general-purpose choice where a shaft needs simple radial support with some axial location, and it is why the type tolerates being loaded from either side without a second opposed bearing. Open faces let lubricant reach the ball track directly and let heat escape, which suits an application where the housing supplies grease or oil, and it means retention of lubricant depends on the housing rather than on the bearing.
1 Pc. One complete bearing, inner ring, outer ring, ball set and cage. Supplied without a housing, locknut, adapter sleeve or seals.
The bearing goes onto a clean shaft seat against a square shoulder, mounted by even pressure across the ring being fitted rather than by blows transmitted through the ball set. With open faces the housing provides the lubricant retention and any exclusion of contamination.
50BIC225 and XLS5 are alternative designations for this same imperial envelope and are the numbers to search when the RHP form does not appear. Imperial journal bearings are not dimensionally interchangeable with metric deep groove bearings: no metric ISO size matches a 5 in bore with a 7 in outside diameter, so a nominally similar metric bearing is a different part rather than a substitution.
