What this part is

A Carlo Gavazzi EM112 single-phase energy analyser in a 2-module DIN-rail housing. It meters active and reactive energy on a 230 V line-to-neutral circuit with the load current passing directly through the meter — no current transformer is needed up to 100 A. Backlit LCD, three rows of eight digits, integrated touch keypad, and an M-Bus port for remote reading.

What these specs mean in practice

The B suffix is the one that matters when choosing between otherwise identical EM112s. It gives you separate kWh+ and kWh− registers, with the imported register the certified one, which is what you want for tenant billing or for a site with on-site generation where export must not inflate the bill. It also enables the wrong-current-direction warning: a fixed orange LED means a CT-free direct connection has been wired backwards. The A variant instead sums both directions into one certified total.

Quantity and configuration

Sold as 1 piece. Sealing covers are part of the standard product; confirm what is present before relying on the tamper seals for a revenue-metering installation.

Installation and setup notes

Menus are reached through the two touch keys behind a password (default 0000). The pages you will want are the M-Bus primary address (1 to 250) and M-Bus baud rate (default 2.4 kbaud); every meter on a shared bus needs its own primary address. The secondary M-Bus address is set at production in the 7000 0000 to 7999 9999 range. Demand integration time is 1 to 30 minutes, default 1 minute. On PFB units the Measurement and Home-page menus are locked, which is expected — the measurement mode is fixed by the certification.

Interchange guidance

Within the EM112 family the suffixes are the part. The .PF.A version sums both current directions into a single certified total and is not a substitute here; S1 gives RS485 Modbus instead of M-Bus; O1 gives a pulse output; AV1 is a 120 V meter. The 1-DIN EM111 covers 45 A and the 3-DIN EM340 is the three-phase equivalent — related models in the same range, not drop-in replacements.
