What this part is

A Theben TR 610 top2 digital time switch — a single-channel DIN-rail clock that turns a load on and off to a weekly schedule. Two modules wide, with a text-guided display, four touch buttons and DuoFix spring terminals. It drives a changeover contact rated 16 A at 250 V AC and stores up to 56 switching times.

What these specs mean in practice

The switching capacity is duty-dependent, and that is what catches people out: 16 A at 250 V AC applies at cos φ = 1, but only 10 A at cos φ = 0.6, and lamp loads have their own limits — 2600 W incandescent or halogen, 1000 VA for uncorrected or series-corrected fluorescent, 730 VA parallel-corrected at 80 µF, and just 170 W for energy-saving lamps. LED loads step by lamp wattage: 30 W total for lamps under 2 W, 100 W for 2 to 8 W lamps, 120 W above 8 W. At the other end, minimum switching capacity is about 10 mA, so very small loads may not switch reliably. Zero-cross switching is built in on the mains versions (not on 24 V devices), which is what makes the high lamp loads possible without wrecking the relay. Being fully operable without a mains connection means you can program the unit at the bench before it ever goes in the panel.

Quantity and configuration

Sold as 1 piece — the time switch only. No memory card is supplied with this model. The OBELISK top2 memory card (9070404), the OBELISK top2 PC set (9070409), the 35 mm wall mounting kit (9070064) and the front panel kit (9070001) are separate accessories and are not included.

Installation and setup notes

Programming is text-guided on the display and can be done with the unit off the rail and unpowered, so schedules can be loaded before installation. Where several identical units are needed, program one and copy to the others via an OBELISK top2 card rather than keying each one. Set or disable the summer/winter rule deliberately — the default is a European rule, which will shift a North American installation by several weeks twice a year. Note the terminals take two conductors per position, which is often what makes a crowded consumer unit workable.

Interchange guidance

The supply voltage variant is part of the identity: TR 610 top2 24V (6104100) is a 24 V device and, importantly, does not have zero-cross switching, so its lamp-load ratings differ; do not treat it as a low-voltage equivalent of this unit. TR 610 top2 G (6100110) is the variant with the alternative terminal arrangement. TR 612 top2 is the two-channel model. TR 610 top3 is the newer generation with a different programming interface and its own accessory card — a functional successor, not a drop-in swap for a top2 card-programmed installation.
