Product Description

Type code, and what is actually confirmed

SH070/60020/0/0/00/00/00/11/00 is an ELAU PacDrive SH-series servo motor. The first two groups are the part that carries the ratings:

SH – PacDrive SH servo motor family (self-cooled, permanent-magnet brushless AC)070 – 70 mm mounting-flange frame size (the range runs SH-055, SH-070, SH-100, SH-140, SH-205)60020 – winding and length code within the frame. In ELAU’s own data tables this is the SH-070 60 020 build: 1.19 kW rated power, 2.2 N·m standstill torque, 11.8 A rms peak current, 8000 min-1 mechanical limit speedThe remaining eight groups are ELAU’s option slots – gear unit, holding brake, feedback, shaft form, connector orientation, protection and special build. ELAU published that key only as a graphic in section 4.6 of the SH motor operating manual, and it is not machine-readable, so we are not going to guess which slot means what. What we can state with certainty, because it is printed on the type plate in the photographs, is that this unit has a holding brake (Ubr: 24 VDC) and a PTC winding temperature sensor. If your machine’s parts list calls out a different trailing group – /00/00, /01/00 or /10/00 are all in circulation for SH070/60020 – ask us to compare type plates before ordering.

Type plate, read from the photographs

SH070/60020/0/0/00/00/00/11/00 / ID.-No. 65012202-003 / SN 669717.0010 / Pn 1.19 kW / U max 480 V rms / I max 11.8 A rms / N max 8000 min-1 / Mo 2.2 N·m / Kt 0.77 N·m/A / Ke 48 V per 1000 min-1 / IP 50 (IP65) / Thermo: PTC / Holding Brake: Ubr 24 VDC / DOM 16.2.2009 / CE / ELAU, D-97828 Marktheidenfeld.

Reading those numbers properly

Mo is standstill torque, not rated torque. ELAU defines Mo as the continuous (100 % duty) torque at 5 min-1, at 40 °C ambient and 120 °C winding temperature. Rated torque at rated speed is lower because of speed-dependent losses. Size on the duty-cycle RMS torque, not on Mo.

I max 11.8 A rms is the peak current, not the standstill current. With Kt = 0.77 N·m/A rms, the standstill current corresponding to Mo = 2.2 N·m is about 2.9 A rms. The 11.8 A figure is the current at peak torque – it is what the servo amplifier must be able to deliver briefly, and it is the number that decides whether your existing MC-4 amplifier can drive this motor at all. Do not size a drive’s continuous rating from it.

Ke = 48 V per 1000 min-1 matters at the top end. At 8000 min-1 the back-EMF between phases is roughly 384 V rms, which is why this is a 480 V-class machine and why it will not reach anything like 8000 min-1 on a 230 V bus. It also means an overhauling load can push the DC bus up hard – check your braking-resistor sizing on vertical or high-inertia axes.

The brake is a parking brake. ELAU’s data for the SH-070 60 020 brake: 2.0 N·m static holding torque at 120 °C, 8 ms coupling time, 25 ms disconnection time, 11 W rated coil power, 24 V DC +6/-10 %, adding 0.22 kg and 0.072 kg·cm2 of inertia. It is a permanent-magnet design that is released electromagnetically, so a de-energised motor will not turn by hand – that is normal, not a fault. ELAU explicitly warns against using it to stop a moving axis other than in emergency stop, and requires the friction face to be re-ground by hand-turning roughly 50 revolutions with the brake closed if the motor has been stored for over two years. This unit was manufactured in February 2009, so plan on that re-grinding step.

IP 50 (IP65) is conditional on mounting position. Per ELAU’s own table, the shaft area is IP50 in mounting position IM V3, IP54 in IM B5 and IM V1, and IP65 only with a shaft sealing ring; the surface and connections are IP65, or IP67 with the optional positive-pressure purge. If you are washing this machine down, the seal option and the mounting orientation are the whole argument.

Shaft loading. Permissible radial force for the SH-070 60 020 falls with speed: 710 N at 1000 min-1, 560 N at 2000, 490 N at 3000, 450 N at 4000, 410 N at 5000, 390 N at 6000, 370 N at 7000, 350 N at 8000. Permissible axial force is 0.2 × the radial figure. Basis: L10h = 20,000 h bearing life, 40 °C ambient, shaft without feather-key nut. Belt-driven axes at high speed are the case to check.

Drive pairing and commissioning

SH motors are part of the PacDrive system and are driven by an ELAU MC-4 servo amplifier, or by a PS-5 power supply with a DB-5 distribution box, under a PacDrive C-series or P-series controller. ELAU matches the motor at the factory, so no customer alignment or motor-data entry is required – the amplifier configuration selects the motor type. Two connectors are used: a combined power/brake/temperature connector (P30 tightened to 2 Nm, or P70 at 7-8 Nm) and a separate encoder connector at 2.5 Nm. Brake release for bench testing is pins A and B on a P30 or +/- on a P70. Only shielded cables, and keep motor cable length to a minimum – ELAU is emphatic about this because the SH winding sees steep dV/dt from the amplifier.

Obsolescence trail – the part buyers actually search on:
ELAU AG of Marktheidenfeld, Germany was acquired by Schneider Electric, and the PacDrive line became a Schneider product. The original SH motors with MC-4 amplifiers are the legacy PacDrive M generation; Schneider’s current equivalent platform is PacDrive 3 with Lexium 52 / Lexium 62 drives, which uses a different motor generation and a different feedback and power connection scheme. There is no drop-in modern replacement for an SH070 on an MC-4 axis – migrating means changing the drive, the cabling and the controller program. That is precisely why used and new-old-stock SH motors still command real money: they keep an otherwise-sound packaging line running without a control-system rebuild. Search variants: ELAU, ELAU AG, ELAU GmbH, Schneider Electric ELAU, PacDrive, PacDrive M.

Condition and what is included

New old stock in opened packaging, made in Germany, date of manufacture 16 February 2009. The connector shroud is damaged – see the photographs. Assess it before buying: the shroud carries the sealing face and strain relief for the power connector, so a damaged one means a reduced ingress rating until it is replaced. Motor only – no cables, no mating connectors, no mounting hardware, no documentation. Not functionally tested.
