What these specs mean in practice

Resolution and protective height are the two numbers that decide whether a curtain is legal for your guard, and they are not adjustable. 30 mm resolution is the hand-detection class — it will not detect a finger, so a finger-protection application needs a 14 mm curtain instead. The 250 mm field height is short: this is an opening or point-of-operation guard, not a perimeter or access guard. Safety distance must be recalculated for the curtain you fit, using its response time and your machine’s stopping time; a shorter or longer curtain changes the mounting geometry but not that calculation. The one-piece extruded housing is the practical selling point on this series — the sticks stay straight, which is where cheaper curtains generate nuisance trips.

Hazard and rating notes

Rated up to PL e / SIL 3, but the achieved performance level depends on the whole safety function: the curtain, the safety relay or controller, the contactors and the feedback loop. Commissioning must include a verification of the protective field and the safety distance.

Installation and setup notes

Emitter and receiver must be aligned squarely and at the same height, with no reflective surface close enough to the beam path to allow a bypass reflection. Mind the minimum range: at 30 mm resolution the range starts at 3 m, so a very short span may need a different configuration. IP65 suits general machine-shop conditions but not high-pressure washdown.

Quantity and configuration

Sold as one emitter/receiver set — both sticks, as the ER designation denotes. A curtain does not function with only one half.

Interchange guidance

SLC440-ER-0250-30-01 and SLC440ER02503001 are the same part. Other SLC440 numbers differ in the fields that matter: SLC440-ER-1610-30-01 and SLC440-ER-1850-30-01 are the same 30 mm resolution at 1610 mm and 1850 mm protective heights, and a 14 mm resolution version is a different detection class entirely. SLC440COM is the communicating variant of the series. None of these substitute for one another in a validated safety function without recalculating the safety distance.
