Product Description

What this part is

Fanuc A06B-6096-H102, the Alpha series servo amplifier module SVM1-20. It is a single-axis servo amplifier: it takes DC from the drive rack’s shared bus and inverts it into three-phase current to drive one Fanuc Alpha servo motor, taking its command from the CNC over the FSSB serial servo bus. It is an amplifier, not a power supply — it does not rectify mains and cannot operate on its own.

Decoding the order code

A06B – Fanuc servo and spindle products6096 – the Alpha single-axis servo amplifier family with FSSB interfaceH102 – the size within that family: SVM1-20. SVM1 means one axis; the 20 is the transistor-module rating in amps, not the output current — rated continuous output is 5.9 A
Fanuc’s own model table for this generation runs: SVM1-12 = H101, SVM1-20 = H102, SVM1-40S = H103, SVM1-40L = H104, SVM1-80 = H105, SVM1-130 = H106, SVM1-240 = H107. Some distributor listings misidentify H102 as an SVM1-40S or an SVM1-12; per Fanuc’s table H102 is the SVM1-20.

Condition — what is physically in the box

Tested takeout unit, supplied missing plastics: one or more moulded covers or trim pieces is absent, as shown in the photographs. The electrical assembly is complete and the unit has been tested; what is short is cosmetic and guarding plastic. Worth weighing if the cabinet is opened by operators, or if you want the module to guard and look like the original — the covers would need sourcing separately. For a working spare in an enclosed cabinet this generally does not matter.

What these specs mean in practice

Read the model number carefully: the 20 is the transistor rating and is routinely mistaken for output amps. The figure that decides whether this amplifier suits your axis is 5.9 A continuous / 1.25 kW. At 60 mm wide this is a small-machine amplifier, and Fanuc paired it with the αC3/2000 and αC6/2000 servo motors — typical duty is a light axis, a rotary or indexing axis, or the X and Y of a compact mill rather than a heavy vertical axis.

Because the input is 283–325 V DC rather than AC mains, this module needs an Alpha power supply module (PSM) on the same rack to rectify the incoming three-phase supply and feed the shared DC bus. The PSM must be rated for the total simultaneous demand of every amplifier on that bus, not for this one alone.

The 60 mm width is a real constraint on a retrofit: modules bolt side by side and the DC bus bars are arranged to a specific geometry, so swapping in a wider or narrower amplifier changes the bus layout.

Firmware and control compatibility: read this before you buy:
This module is the FSSB version, so the CNC must be an FSSB control — in practice a 16i, 18i or 21i class control. Fanuc built the same SVM model names in two interface generations, and the middle digits of the order number are what distinguish them: A06B-6096-Hxxx is the FSSB version and A06B-6079-Hxxx is the earlier non-FSSB version of the same model name. So A06B-6079-H102 is also an SVM1-20, but it is not a drop-in for this one — the servo interface is different, and fitting the wrong generation gives you a physically mounted amplifier the control cannot talk to. Confirm which interface your machine uses before ordering.

What is included

Servo amplifier module only, as pictured, less the missing plastics noted above. Not included: the Alpha power supply module (PSM); spindle amplifier modules; DC bus link bars or bus connection kits; the FSSB optical fibre cable; motor power or encoder feedback cables; the connector kit; the internal A16B-2202-0741 wiring board as a separate spare; a braking resistor (the Alpha PSM is regenerative and does not normally use one); a rack, cabinet or mounting hardware; a servo motor; or documentation.

Installation and setup notes

Mount with Fanuc’s specified ventilation clearance; the module depends on its internal fan and will alarm on overtemperature if airflow is blocked. Observe DC bus polarity and torque the bus bars correctly. Isolate and allow the DC bus capacitors to discharge fully before touching bus terminals — they hold a hazardous charge after the mains has been removed, and with plastics missing there is less between you and them. FSSB is a daisy chain, so the module’s position in the chain sets its axis assignment; the FSSB axis parameters in the CNC must match the physical order, which is the most common commissioning error on this platform. Set servo parameters for the actual motor model rather than copying another axis. If the amplifier alarms, read the status display against the Alpha servo amplifier alarm list first — many amplifier alarms originate in the motor, encoder, fibre link or DC bus.

Interchange guidance

A06B-6096-H102 is the SVM1-20 with FSSB. A06B-6079-H102 is the same SVM1-20 model in the earlier non-FSSB interface — a related part, not an interchange. Other H-numbers in the 6096 family are different current ratings and are not equivalents: an undersized amplifier alarms under acceleration, and a larger one changes module width and parameter set. Multi-axis SVM2 and SVM3 modules serve two and three axes and are a different physical item. The later A06B-6114 αi series is a further generation again.
