A Timken 572B tapered roller bearing cup, the outer race only, in the flanged execution. The bearing outside diameter is 5.5115 in (139.99 mm) and the cup width is 1.1250 in (28.58 mm). This is a cup on its own: the mating cone, with its inner ring and roller assembly, is not included.
572: Timken cup number, 5.5115 in OD, 1.1250 in width. B: flanged cup execution, with an integral flange on the outside diameter. -3: Timken precision Class 3, tighter than standard Class 4/K.
A tapered roller bearing is a two-piece assembly and the cup is half of it. The cup carries the outer raceway and is pressed into the housing bore; the cone carries the inner raceway, rollers and cage and is fitted to the shaft. The integral flange on the B execution lets the cup seat against the face of a housing instead of relying on a machined counterbore shoulder, which simplifies the housing and fixes axial position positively. Class 3 precision holds tighter raceway and bore tolerances than standard commercial grade, giving better running accuracy and more consistent preload once the set is adjusted.

The 572 cup mates with Timken cones 575, 575-S, 576, 577, 578, 580, 580X, 581 and 582. Common complete assemblies built on it are SET401 (580 cone with 572 cup) and SET402 (582 cone with 572 cup).
Interchange applies at cup level: another manufacturer’s 572 flanged cup in Class 3 fits the same housing and pairs with the same cones. The plain 572 cup without the B flange is a related part rather than an interchange, because it needs a housing shoulder for axial location. Ratings quoted for a 580/572 or 582/572 assembly apply to the complete set, not to this cup on its own.
