A complete Timken two-row tapered roller bearing assembly in the imperial 48100 series, supplied as five matched pieces: two 48190 cones, two 48120 cups and one Y2S-48190 cup spacer. Bore 4.2500 in, cup outside diameter 6.3750 in, case-hardened alloy steel, stamped steel cages, Class 3 precision.
48190 is the cone identity and 48120 the cup identity in the 48100 series. The -99012 suffix is Timken’s assembly number and identifies this specific pre-matched build rather than any single component. Y2S is Timken’s cup spacer prefix, and the 48190 that follows ties the spacer to this bearing size. The *3 marking on each component is precision Class 3.
Two single-row bearings separated by a ground cup spacer make a two-row mounting whose row spacing, and therefore its setting, is fixed by the spacer rather than by shimming in the housing. That gives a repeatable end play and thrust capacity in both directions, with the bearing spread carrying moment load. Because the cups are separate rings rather than one double cup, the two rows can be pressed into a through-bored housing from either end. Class 3 tightens bore, outside diameter and runout tolerances over standard stock.
5 Pcs, forming one complete two-row assembly: two cones, two cups, one cup spacer.
The cups are pressed into the housing bore with the spacer between their frontfaces, and the cones press onto the shaft. Clamping is taken on the outboard cone backface by the shaft nut or end plate. The ground spacer length sets the internal clearance, so no adjustment is taken at assembly. The 0.14 in cone and 0.130 in cup backface to-clear radii govern the maximum shaft and housing shoulder fillets.
The 48190 cone and 48120 cup identities are carried across the tapered roller industry at the same envelope. A single 48190 cone against a single 48120 cup is a one-row bearing and a different product. A double-cup TDO assembly at the same envelope is a related size with a different housing arrangement, and a spacer from another assembly changes the internal setting.
