A single-row deep groove ball bearing in the 63 heavy dimension series — 75 mm bore, 160 mm outside diameter, 37 mm wide — with a contact rubber seal on one side and the other face left open. Deep groove ball bearings take radial load plus axial load in either direction. At this section it is a heavy motor, crusher, mill, fan hub and industrial gearbox bearing.
6: single-row deep groove ball bearing.
3: dimension series 63, the heavy section and width.
15: bore code, 15 x 5 = 75 mm bore.
RS: a contact rubber seal on one side only. Two seals are 2RS1 or 2RS; 2Z is steel shields on both sides; 2RZ is low-friction non-contact seals.
No clearance suffix: normal (CN) radial internal clearance.
SKF writes the single-seal form as 6315-RS1 and the double as 6315-2RS1. The industry short forms 6315RS and 6315-2RS describe the same closures.
Two things decide this part. A contact rubber seal is a real seal, not a shield: the lip rubs on the inner ring, so it holds out washdown water, coolant mist and fine wet grit that a steel shield lets straight through. The trade is more running torque and a lower speed ceiling than a shielded or open bearing.
Only one side is closed. The sealed face goes toward the contamination and the open face toward the lubricant, so the bearing can still be fed grease or oil from inside the housing. A 6315-RS is therefore not interchangeable with a 6315-2RS1: the double-sealed bearing carries its own grease for life and is closed off from any housing lubrication, while this one depends on it.
Clearance is normal (CN). That suits a shaft and housing running at similar temperatures with a standard interference fit. A 6315/C3 is the greater-clearance variant.
Bore: 75 mm.
Outside diameter: 160 mm.
Width: 37 mm.
Dimension series: 63 (heavy).
Rows: 1.
Closure: one contact rubber seal, opposite side open (RS).
Internal clearance: normal (CN).
Material: through-hardened bearing steel.
Sold as 1 piece. One seal fitted, one face open. No snap ring, no housing.
Genuine interchanges are same-envelope single-contact-sealed bearings: SKF 6315-RS1, FAG 6315-RSR, NSK 6315DU and NTN 6315LU. A 6315-2RS1 (both sides sealed), a 6315-2Z (steel shields), an open 6315 and a 6315/C3 (greater clearance) all change lubrication, sealing or fit-up. A 6215 of the same bore is the medium series, a physically smaller bearing.
