A single-row cylindrical roller bearing, 70 mm bore × 125 mm outside diameter × 31 mm width, in the NJ22 wide dimension series to DIN 5412-1. The NJ design carries two ribs on the outer ring and a single rib on the inner ring, so the bearing takes full radial load and also locates the shaft in one axial direction against that inner rib.
NJ — two ribs on the outer ring plus one rib on the inner ring. Locates the shaft axially in one direction; the opposite direction remains free.
22 — NJ22 dimension series, the wide variant of the 2-series, hence 31 mm width across a 27.5 mm radial section.
14 — bore code for a 70 mm bore.
E — reinforced internal design, with a larger roller complement raising radial capacity within the same envelope.
M1 — two-piece machined brass cage, roller-guided.
C3 — radial internal clearance greater than normal.
An NJ bearing is the usual partner to an NU bearing on the same shaft: the NJ end takes the axial thrust in one direction while the NU end floats, or two opposed NJ bearings between them fix the shaft in both directions. The single inner rib carries only light-to-moderate intermittent thrust, since load passes across the flat roller ends rather than through a raceway contact.
C3 clearance is greater than normal and preserves running clearance where the inner ring runs hotter than the housing or where a tight shaft fit closes part of the built-in clearance — the usual case in electric motors, gearboxes and fan drives. The machined brass cage is dimensionally stable at temperature, suits oil-jet and oil-mist lubrication, and handles acceleration and shock better than a pressed cage. Operating temperature window is −30 °C to 150 °C.

Closure: open, no seals or shields
One bearing, complete with outer ring, roller set, brass cage and separable single-ribbed inner ring.
The inner ring separates from the outer ring and roller assembly, so the two halves mount independently — inner ring onto the shaft, outer ring and roller set into the housing — and meet on final assembly. The ribbed face of the inner ring is the axially loaded side, and it abuts a square shoulder or a locknut face. Thrust reaches the bearing only through that one face; the opposite direction is unrestrained by design.
The current Schaeffler designations for this bearing are NJ2214-E-XL-M1-C3 and NJ2214-E-XL-M1A-C3. Same-specification equivalents from other makers appear as NJ2214 EM/C3 or NJ2214 ECM/C3 with a machined brass cage and C3 clearance. Related sizes rather than interchanges: NU2214-E-M1-C3 shares the 70 × 125 × 31 mm envelope but is non-locating, NUP2214 locates in both directions, and NJ2214-E-TVP2-C3 is the same geometry with a polyamide cage and a lower temperature ceiling.
