Product Description

What this part is

An RHP super-precision angular contact ball bearing, 30 mm bore, 62 mm outside diameter, 16 mm width per bearing, supplied as a duplex pair. RHP is the British line of NSK, and RHP super-precision angular contact bearings share the NSK nomenclature family. The 7206 designation is the ISO 72 series in the 06 bore code, so the boundary dimensions are interchangeable across manufacturers even where the internal specification is not.

Decoding the designation

In 7206DULP4 the 72 is the ISO dimension series and 06 the bore code, giving the 30 mm bore. There is no angle letter between the series number and the arrangement code, and in the RHP scheme an absent angle letter denotes a 40° contact angle — a C in that position would denote 15° and an E 25°. DU marks a duplex pair, L sets light preload, and P4 is the precision class. The alternative carton designation 7206UEP7 uses RHP’s own class notation, where EP7 is the same class as P4, so the two designations on this part cross-confirm both the class and the duplex universal grinding.

What these specs mean in practice

A 40° contact angle is the high-thrust end of the angular contact range. It carries substantially more axial load than a 15° or 25° bearing of the same envelope and correspondingly less radial load, and it runs at a lower limiting speed because the steeper ball path raises spin and gyroscopic moment. Light preload keeps running torque and heat generation low while still removing internal clearance, which is the usual choice where stiffness matters but the duty cycle is continuous. ABEC 7 sets the running accuracy — bore, outside diameter and raceway runout are held to super-precision tolerances rather than general-purpose ones.

Thrust direction and arrangement

A single-row angular contact ball bearing takes thrust in one direction only. Mounting two as a duplex pair gives axial capacity in both directions and defines the preload through the ground offset on the ring faces. Universal grinding means the two rings are finished so that any two bearings of this designation may be arranged back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem and will develop the specified light preload when clamped.

Quantity and configuration

2 Pcs, one duplex pair. The 16 mm width is the width of a single bearing, giving 32 mm across the assembled pair.

Fitting notes

Duplex preload is developed by clamping the ground faces together, so the shaft and housing shoulders are the datum and the clamp load must reach the ring faces squarely. The marking on the outer ring faces establishes the intended orientation of the pair.

Interchange guidance

An exact substitution matches all four of series, contact angle, arrangement and preload. Same-envelope 7206 bearings at 15° or 25° are related sizes rather than interchanges, since the angle sets the load split, and a single universal bearing is a related item rather than a replacement for a matched duplex pair.
