Decoding the designation

122 — the MRC size code in the 100R large-bore radial block. The trailing 22 sets the bore at 110 mm, and this block runs to its own outside diameters and widths rather than the ISO ones.

R — Contact Angle: 15°, with a counterbored outer ring. The counterbore admits a full ball complement past a low shoulder, and the high shoulder opposite carries the thrust.

Fitting notes

The high-shoulder side of the outer ring faces the thrust load, so the bearing is fitted with the counterbore turned away from the direction the axial force arrives from. Where two are paired, the marked ring faces are lined up so the ground relationship closes at clamp-up. A 110 mm bore is normally mounted with heat, taking the inner ring to around 80 °C above ambient and dropping it onto the journal. Mounting force is applied through the ring being fitted and is never transmitted across the balls.
