Product Description

What this part is

This is an MRC 7217DU single-row angular contact ball bearing with an 85 mm bore, 150 mm outside diameter and 28 mm width. It is open on both faces, with no seal or shield. MRC is part of the SKF group.

Decoding the designation

The 7217 base number places the bearing in the ISO 72 dimension series with an 85 mm bore. The DU suffix is MRC’s duplex universal grinding: the faces are ground so that any two pieces of the same designation mount together back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem without a spacer or a factory-matched pair.

Contact angle

MRC grinds its 7000-series angular contact bearings to a 29° contact angle. That is specific to the MRC scheme and sits between the 25° and 40° angles used elsewhere, so the thrust capacity and speed behaviour of this bearing do not match a 72-series number from another maker.

What these specs mean in practice

Contact angle sets the split between radial and axial capability. At 29° the bearing takes substantially more thrust in its loaded direction than a 15° bearing of the same envelope, at the cost of some speed capability, while radial capacity is broadly similar. A single row takes thrust in one direction only, so axial location in both directions requires a second bearing opposed to it.

Quantity and configuration

Single bearing, 1 Pc. Universally matchable, so it can run alone against an opposed bearing or be stacked with further pieces of the same designation.

Fitting notes

The bearing is mounted with force applied through the ring being fitted, never transmitted through the balls, and the wide face and narrow face of the rings determine the arrangement direction. Preload in a duplex stack comes from the ground faces and the axial clamp, not from the bearing alone.

Interchange guidance

The genuine interchange is another MRC 7217DU. A 7217B at 40° and a 7217C at 15° share the 85 x 150 x 28 mm envelope but carry different contact angles, which makes them related sizes rather than substitutions.
