A single-row imperial tapered roller bearing cone in the 72200 size — the inner ring complete with its tapered rollers and cage, forming the shaft-side half of a two-piece TS single-row tapered bearing. Cone only. The matching cup is the Timken 72487, with the 72500 as the second published pairing.
72200 is an inch-series number in the ANSI/ABMA interchange scheme, so the digits define the cone geometry and the same number is used by other inch-series makers. The 72200 sits in Timken’s steep-angle number block: cone numbers in the 722xx group pair with cups in the 724xx and 725xx groups, which is why the mating cup is a 72487 rather than a number close to 72200.
The K factor of 0.79 is unusually low, indicating a steep cup angle. The consequence is visible in the ratings: the published thrust rating Ca90 of 12,100 lbf exceeds the radial rating C90 of 9,620 lbf, so the 72200/72487 is a thrust-dominant tapered bearing suited to positions where axial load is the governing case — pinion heads, screw jacks, kiln and mill trunnions. The cone takes an interference fit on the shaft and is driven from the backface against the shoulder, with the load path through the inner ring rather than through the cage or rollers. Endplay or preload is set once the cup is seated in the housing bore. Grease or oil lubrication both suit the geometry.
72200 interchanges directly across Timken, SKF, FAG (as K-72200), NTN and Koyo because the inch-series number defines the geometry. The 72212 and 72225 are related sizes in the same block with different bore and width and are separate parts.
