The worm set turns the drive 90°, drops the speed and multiplies torque — the standard small-drive gearbox for conveyors, feeders, augers, mixers and packaging machinery.

What these specs mean in practice

A quill input is not the same as a C-face coupled input. The motor’s own shaft becomes the worm input, so the motor shaft diameter and length matter as much as the flange: a 56C motor with the wrong shaft extension will not seat. It also means there is no coupling to buy, and no coupling to wear.

Centre distance sets the torque class, not the ratio. A 2.00 in Tigear-2 is a small-frame box; the 2.3 in, 2.6 in and 3.0 in frames are progressively stronger and share no housing dimensions with it.

15:1 is a mid-range worm ratio. Do not assume self-locking — if a suspended or gravity-back-driven load has to be held, fit a brake motor or a separate brake rather than relying on the worm set.

R is the output hand. The L-coded build is the mirror image, so confirm which side your driven shaft sits on before ordering.

Installation and setup notes

Measure the motor shaft diameter and usable length against the quill before fitting; that is the single most common false start on a Q-code unit. Confirm the oil level is right for your mounting position — a worm box filled for one orientation can starve in another. Run in under partial load before applying full torque, and check the output shaft key and seals before fitting a sprocket or coupling.

Interchange guidance

20Q15L56 is the same reducer with the output on the opposite hand. Other 20-series ratios share the housing and mounting but change output speed. A-code builds (for example 30A07L18) are C-face coupled rather than quill and are not interchangeable with a Q-code unit. Dodge Tigear-2 is now sold under Regal Rexnord; the numbering is unchanged.
