A tapered roller bearing cone assembly: the inner race complete with its rollers and cage. Timken part number 71450, bore 4.500 in (114.3 mm).
This is one half of a bearing. A tapered roller bearing consists of a cone assembly plus a separate cup (the outer race). This listing is the cone only — the mating cup, part number 71750, is not included. Assembled, 71450 and 71750 give a bearing of 4.500 in bore, 7.500 in outside diameter and 1.875 in overall width.
71450 is the ANSI/ABMA cone number in Timken’s 71000 inch tapered series. The trailing W is a Timken variant marking carried on this item; no published decode was located for it, so we have retained it as a search term and not translated it into a specification. If the W denotes a specific internal variant your application depends on, contact us and we will read the exact ring etching before you order.
A cone on its own has no load rating — the rating is a property of the assembled bearing. Timken publishes the following for the complete 71450/71750 tapered single assembly:
Bore (d): 4.500 in (114.3 mm)
Outside diameter (D): 7.500 in (190.5 mm)
Overall assembled width (T): 1.875 in (47.625 mm)
Cone width through bore (B): 1.9375 in
Cup width (C): 1.375 in
Dynamic radial load rating (C1): 364,000 N
Static radial load rating (C0): 543,000 N
Assembly weight: approximately 5.2 kg
Note the useful quirk of tapered roller geometry: the cone is wider than the assembled bearing (1.9375 in against 1.875 in), because the cone’s back face projects past the cup when the rollers are seated. That is normal and not a data error.
Sold as cone assemblies. We are not publishing a piece count because inch tapered components are sometimes shelved as sets and sometimes as loose pieces — contact us and we will confirm the exact count on hand before you order. We also hold a broad range of Timken cones and cups and can often make up a complete matched assembly, including the 71750 cup for this cone.
Press the cone squarely onto the shaft with force applied to the inner ring’s back face only — never push against the cage or the rollers, which will distort the cage and ruin the bearing. Tapered roller bearings are adjustable, so the assembly must be set to the end play or preload figure the equipment manufacturer specifies after both halves are fitted. Never pair a new cone with a used cup: the two raceways wear into each other, and a mixed pairing concentrates load over part of the roller length and fails early.
71450 is an industry-standard inch tapered cone number available from several manufacturers, and same-number substitution is generally valid on geometry. The mating cup is 71750; a flanged cup variant, 71750-B, also exists for TSF (tapered single with flange) arrangements. The 71425 cone shares the same 71750 cup at a smaller bore, so check the cone number rather than the cup when identifying a used assembly.
