This is an imperial single-row tapered roller bearing cone — the inner ring with its tapered rollers and cage. It is one half of a tapered roller bearing. The mating cup (outer race) is a separate part number and is not included in this listing.
368 is a Timken imperial cone number in the 362/368 family; its matching cup is 362A (362 is also listed against it), so a complete single-row bearing is a 368 cone plus a 362A cup. The trailing -3 (also written *3 or #3) is Timken’s precision Class 3. Timken tapered roller classes run Class 4 (standard commercial), then Class 3, Class 0 and Class 00 in increasing precision, so this cone is held to tighter bore and running-accuracy tolerances than the standard part.
Cone bore (d): 2.0000 in / 50.8 mm
Inner ring width (B): 0.8750 in / 22.225 mm
Mating cup 362A outside diameter (D): 3.5000 in / 88.900 mm
Mating cup 362A width (C): 0.6501 in / 16.513 mm
Cone weight: 2.63 lb / 1.195 kg
The ratings below are catalogue values for the complete 368/362A single-row assembly, not for the cone alone.
Dynamic radial rating C1 (1 million rev basis): 22,900 lbf / 102,000 N
Dynamic radial rating C90 (90 million rev basis): 5,930 lbf / 26,400 N
Dynamic axial rating Ca90: 3,250 lbf / 14,400 N
Static radial rating C0: 21,500 lbf / 95,800 N
K factor: 1.83 · e: 0.32 · Y: 1.88 · geometry factor Cg: 0.0773
Effective load centre: −0.17 in / −4.3 mm (inside the cone backface)
Maximum shaft fillet radius cleared: 0.06 in / 1.5 mm
Shaft backing shoulder diameter, frontface (da): 2.2 in / 56 mm
Shaft backing shoulder diameter, backface (db): 2.28 in / 58 mm
A K factor of 1.83 makes this a radially biased taper: good radial capacity for a slim 0.6501 in cup, modest thrust capacity, and little induced thrust passed to the opposing bearing. The narrow cup is the point of this family — it lets a 2 in shaft be carried in a 3.5 in housing bore without a long axial envelope, which is why it is common in gear reducers and shaft-mounted drives where axial room is scarce. Class 3 precision earns its keep when the cone must hold a gear in mesh, or when a pair is being set to preload rather than end play, because the tighter tolerances make the set repeatable.
This listing ships 1 Pc — one 368-3 cone. No cup, no spacer, no seal. A normal two-bearing shaft needs two cones and two cups.
Press the cone on square with the driver on the backface only, never through the rollers or cage. Keep the shaft shoulder within the da/db range and the fillet radius under 0.06 in — that is a tight corner allowance, and a generous radius will hold the cone off its seat and show up as end play you cannot adjust out. Set the end play or preload after both cups are fully home.
368 is a dimensionally standardised imperial cone, so 368 cones from Timken, Koyo, NTN, Bower/BCA, SKF and Federal-Mogul interchange with one another and with any maker’s 362A cup. 368A shares this envelope and every published rating, and runs in the same 362A/362 cups, so it is a genuine interchange rather than a related size. By contrast the standard-precision 368 shares the envelope but not this Class 3 tolerance grade, and 362 versus 362A differ in cup detail — check the cup number against your housing.
