What this part is

This is an SKF 7014 C single-row angular contact ball bearing with a 70 mm bore, 110 mm outside diameter and 20 mm width, open on both faces. The 70 series is the light dimension series, giving a slim section for its bore.

Decoding the designation

The 70 series prefix with bore code 14 gives the 70 mm bore in the light dimension series. In SKF’s scheme the C suffix specifies a 15° contact angle, which is why the bearing is also listed as a 7014C. There is no clearance suffix, so radial internal clearance is normal, CN.

What these specs mean in practice

A 15° contact angle is the high-speed, low-thrust end of the angular contact range: less axial capacity than a 25° or 40° bearing of the same envelope, but higher speed capability and lower heat generation. The light 70 series keeps the outside diameter and width down for a 70 mm shaft, which is what makes this size common in compact spindle and gearbox housings. A single row takes thrust in one direction only, so locating a shaft in both directions needs a second bearing opposed to this one.

Same-envelope, same-angle equivalents are FAG 7014-C, NSK 7014C and NTN 7014C, all 15°, 70 x 110 x 20 mm. A 7014 AC at 25° and a 7014 B at 40° share the envelope with a different contact angle, and a 7214 is the heavier 72 series at the same bore; those are related sizes rather than substitutions.
