A FAG 7203-B-TVP single-row angular contact ball bearing, 17 mm bore, 40 mm outside diameter, 12 mm wide, with a 40° contact angle. The raceways are offset so the ball load line runs at an angle across the bearing, which lets it carry a large thrust load alongside its radial load. A single-row angular contact bearing takes thrust in one direction only, through that same contact line.
72 is the ISO 72 medium dimension series for single-row angular contact ball bearings. 03 is the bore code, which in the 00 to 03 block does not follow the five-millimetre rule — 00 is 10 mm, 01 is 12 mm, 02 is 15 mm and 03 is 17 mm. B sets the contact angle at 40°; on this standard-precision family a C would be 15° and an E 25°. TVP is the glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cage. No tolerance suffix appears, so the bearing is normal class, P0.
Forty degrees is the steepest of the common angular contact angles, and the trade it makes is explicit: it carries the most thrust and the least speed of the three, and it puts more of any radial load into an axial reaction. That makes the B angle the right pick for a shaft whose duty is mostly thrust in one sense — a worm wheel, a small screw jack, a pump impeller — and the wrong pick for a high-speed lightly loaded spindle, where 15° earns its place. The polyamide cage runs quietly, tolerates shock and momentary lubricant starvation, and has a practical continuous ceiling of 120 °C.
Because it locates in one direction, the type is normally mounted as an opposed pair — back-to-back for moment stiffness, face-to-face for misalignment tolerance — or against a second bearing that takes thrust the other way. This is a plain single bearing rather than a universally matchable one, so where a pair is set to a specified preload that setting comes from shims or a spacer rather than from ground ring faces.
1 Pc. Bearing only, open both faces, no seals and no shields. No spacers, no shims and no locknut.
The bearing mounts with the wide shoulder of each ring facing the thrust it has to react, so orientation is read from the ring faces before pressing. Force is applied to the ring being fitted rather than through the ball complement. Where two are used opposed, both are seated fully before the axial setting is taken up.
The ISO base number is 7203 B, so another maker’s 7203 B, 7203 BEP, 7203 BTN or 7203 BEAT85 40° single-row angular contact ball bearing of the same 12 mm width is a genuine interchange. 7203 C and 7203 E are related sizes, not substitutions, because their 15° and 25° angles change the thrust and speed balance. 7203-B-TVP-UA and 7203-B-TVP-UO are the universally matchable forms with ground faces, and 3203 is the double-row bearing on a wider section.
